How They Work

How They Work

Our engineered ground anchor flights (spirals) twist deep into the ground, creating a tree root–like hold. Once secure, you simply bolt down your base plate or item.

Our industrial-grade commercial threaded hex-less GroundGrabbas are designed so that, once driven into the ground, a portion of the threaded shaft remains above the surface—ready for attachment using the included washer and twin locknuts.

IMPORTANT***Please note that these figures are a guide only.

The results are absolute peak readings and you should allow a decent safety margin.

Ground types vary. Through the depth of one ground anchor the ground can be of different densities and affect outcomes.

These all rely on correct deployment in dry conditions.

Please also note that you will experience even greater ground holding as time goes by and the earth resettles undisturbed.

Recommendations

Recommended Tools to hire or own to help with installation:

NB. These models were available at the time of writing.

**You will need a 9/16" deep impact socket and set of spanners (for locking the two supplied nuts into themselves)**

For driving these into the ground, we recommend a high-torque impact wrench. Consider models like:

For driving these into the ground, we recommend a high-torque impact wrench. Consider models like:

  • Makita 40v TW001GZ-40v Brushless 3/4" Impact Wrench.
  • Milwaukee M18 FUEL 2867-20
  • Use a masonry drill at least the same length as the GR14 you choose for pilot holes in harder ground.

Important Note:

Please note that these are not toys. Ensure you have a powerful drill, especially for hard ground conditions.

Uses & Benefits

Powerful Anchoring Where Standard Anchors Can’t Go

Need a deep-set anchor but your project’s mounting holes won’t fit a flighted GroundGrabba? The 450mm Threaded GroundGrabba was made for exactly that. Purpose-built to solve the common problem of small-hole compatibility, this threaded anchor delivers professional-grade hold in locations where hex-head or flighted options won’t work.

Designed for Narrow Access and Tough Terrain

This anchor is ideal for fixing through steel base plates, timber templates, brackets, and gear that has pre-drilled holes as small as 10mm. With no flights and a clean threaded top shaft, it fits through compact openings where standard GroundGrabba Pro I or Pro II anchors simply can’t pass.

The 450mm threaded model provides longer penetration and greater stability ideal for anchoring projects in firmer harder ground.

Fast, Clean Installation

To deploy this anchor:

  1. Position your item or structure exactly where it needs to sit.
  2. Drill a pilot hole through your gear’s mounting hole and into the ground using a masonry bit suited to the soil type.
  3. Remove the item, then insert the 450mm anchor and drive it in using a 9/16" deep impact socket (not supplied).
  4. Leave enough thread above ground to allow for a nut and washer to fasten your item securely.

Important: Do not overtighten the top nut. Excess torque may pull the anchor upward and reduce holding strength.

What Makes This Anchor Different?

  • Threaded Design – No flights means it fits where standard GroundGrabbas can’t
  • Longer Length – 450mm shaft provides added bite for heavier loads or taller items
  • Premium Steel – Manufactured from toughened steel and finished for durability in outdoor conditions
  • Fast No-Mess Setup – No concrete, no digging, no drying time
  • Not recommended for re-use

Perfect for Engineers, Installers & Field Techs

This model is especially useful for engineers, contractors, and installers who regularly need to mount gear or structures using existing holes or templates. It provides fast, secure fixing without modifying equipment or cutting oversized holes for standard anchors.

Ideal Applications

  • Art installations and public sculptures
  • Modular signage and light structures
  • Weather stations and scientific test rigs
  • Temporary fencing, stanchions, and utility enclosures

Tooling & Compatibility

  • Socket size: 9/16" (deep socket required)
  • Mounting hole compatibility: ~10-15mm internal diameter
  • Fasteners: Secure with appropriate nut and washer (not included)

Why Threaded GroundGrabbas?

Threaded GroundGrabba anchors were developed for projects where our traditional hex head and wide 35mm flights are simply too large to pass through narrow openings. These anchors retain the same high-strength steel and installation simplicity of the GR13 ecosystem, but are streamlined for specialist applications.

They are not a ‘lesser’ option—just a different tool for a different job. And like all GroundGrabba anchors, they’re backed by our lifetime replacement warranty.

Installation Tips from the Field

"We use the 450mm threaded anchors to secure high-end equipment enclosures where pre-drilled holes leave no wiggle room. They save us so much time—no modifying gear, no dodgy retrofits." — Nathan B., AV Integrator
