To Create A Dog Run:  All you need to do is slip your normal dog lead over the orange (or black) Grounded Paws cable then anchor both ends of that cable into the ground.

Set Up  

First, How to deploy your GroundGrabba.

To deploy your GroundGrabba you can use a wrench, adjustable wrench, wheel brace or drill. You'll need to exert down pressure (your weight) on top of the wrench or drill.  The harder the ground, the greater downward force needed.

If the ground is very hard you'll probably need to use a cordless drill and maybe drill a 12mm pilot hole. When you do, remember to follow safety instructions and take it slowly.

In softer grounds or sand we recommend you use the longer GroundGrabba Pro I or Pro II.

Next, Steps To Deploy Your Dog Run:

Read the disclaimer below and follow all safety instructions

Screw your GroundGrabba through the teardrop hole in the HookWasher

Screw or snap/clip the carabiner onto the GroundGrabba so it will sit under the HookWasher

Insert (screw) the GroundGrabba into the ground

Slip your dog lead handle loop over the orange or black cable

Slip the loop end or snap/clip end of the cable onto the carabineer then screw up the carabiner gate

Carry out steps 1-3 above for the other end of the dog run

Snap / clip the other end of the dog lead to your dogs harness

When using Tie Out Stakes, choose a soil which is dense, so that the stake can be screwed into the ground and is not easily pulled out.

Always provide your dog with adequate shade and water.

Take care to choose the appropriate length of cable.  Ensure that your dog is not exposed to any hazards within the radius of the fully extended cable.

GroundGrabba Stakes and tie downs are designed to form part of your training program.  They should never be used as a permanent solution to secure your dog.  Dogs need to exercise and play every day.

How It Works

Setting up your straight-line dog run is simple:

  1. Install both GroundGrabbas – One at each end of your 5m or 10m tether cable. Keep the cable semi-taut to allow safe, smooth movement.
  2. Thread your dog’s leash – Pass one end of the cable through the leash handle or loop.
  3. Secure the cable ends – Use the supplied carabiners to attach each end of the cable to the GroundGrabbas underneath the hook washers.
  4. Let them roam – Your dog’s leash will now glide freely along the cable in a straight path—offering movement without tangling.

Installation Tips

  • Use in firm ground – The included GroundGrabba Pro works best in firm dirt, clay, or grass-topped soil. For soft sand, use the 450mm Pro I instead.
  • Drive in fully – Anchor should sit flush with the ground for maximum strength. Avoid leaving it partially exposed.
  • Place wisely – Choose a clear area without sharp objects or entanglement risks to keep your pet safe.
  • Store dry – Rinse after use and store the full kit in a dry area to prolong lifespan.

What tools do I need to install GroundGrabbas?

For best results, use a cordless drill or impact wrench with the correct socket size (supplied with most kits). A ratchet wrench can also be used, but is not recommended for larger anchors. ⚠️ Important: GroundGrabba Lite must not be installed with an impact driver or impact wrench — use a drill or hand tool only.
